New Haven Man Shot During Robbery Attempt

Police are investigating after a 41-year-old man was shot in the thigh during an attempted robbery in New Haven last night.

Kendall Woodson told police a teenager approached him on Winthrop Avenue between Maple Street and Edgewood Avenue and demanded money around 11:20 p.m. Friday. Woodson refused to hand over the cash and the teen shot him once in the left leg, according to police.

Police said Woodson was alert at the scene. He was taken Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as a medium-complexioned black teenager standing about 5 feet 5 inches tall with a thin build and no facial hair. He was wearing a red shirt, red baseball cap and blue jeans at the time of the incident. Police said he left the scene on foot.

Detectives responded to the scene to search for evidence and speak with possible witnesses.
