New Haven School Buses to Run Today

The buses will run this afternoon, the mayor said.

School buses in New Haven will run on Thursday afternoon after school bus drivers walked off the job.

The New Haven Independent reported earlier that about 170 bus drivers “spontaneously walked off the job Thursday and vowed not to show up to ferry students home.“

Their contract expired over Labor Day weekend, according to the Independent.

Mayor John DeStefano said at a news conference at 2 p.m .that the bus company and union will meet at 6 p.m. about their contract dispute.

Parents will be notified if there will be no transportation on Friday.

Dr. Reginald Mayo said the school district is concerned about the students and will not take sides.
