Police have identified the man shot and killed in New Haven on Saturday night as John Claude-Jones, 26, of Dewitt Street.
Claude-Jones was shot in the chest at the corner of Howard Avenue and Putnam Street shortly after 6 p.m., officials said.
He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police believe the shooting was drug-related because of evidence found at the scene. Details about that evidence have not been released.
Claude-Jones is the 19th homicide victim in New Haven this year.
Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit are investigating.
