New York to New London High-Speed Ferry Coming

Getting From Southeastern Connecticut to New York City just got a lot easier.

New London's City Council voted Monday night to approve a contract to begin weekend high-speed ferry service between Waterfront Park and Manhattan on a trial basis.

Seastreak, a New Jersey-based ferry company will launch service July 3, according to The Day of New London. The ferries will operate one round trip on Saturdays and Sundays July, the paper reported.

The Catamaran-type vessels will leave New York at 9 a.m. on those days, and depart New London at 7 p.m. They'll make the trip in less than three hours, and have a capacity of 405 passengers.

Same-day round trips would costs passengers $69, but round trips of more than two days would cost more, according to The Day.

Seastreak has entered and agreement with Mohegan Sun casino for a guaranteed number of passengers. "It's a backstop that allows us to keep fares low," Seastreak President James Barker told the paper.
