Newington Man Charged Murder Shot Wife Twice: Documents

A Newington man who has been charged in his wife’s murder is accused of shooting her twice a shotgun before using the same gun to shoot himself, according to court records.

Police on Thursday charged 45-year-old Michael Torbicki with murder in the Sept. 21 death of Patricia Torbicki in their Newington home. It could not immediately be determined if he has a lawyer.

Police said Michael Torbicki shot his wife in the leg in their bedroom, and then again in the head as she tried to escape from the home in her pajamas. A neighbor found Patricia Torbicki covered in blood in the doorway of her home and called 911.

Relatives told police Michael Torbicki struggled with alcoholism and depression and the couple was considering divorce.

Court records say the State of Connecticut firearms database shows Michael Torbicki has four guns registered to him.

Newington police did have prior contact at the home, according to police documents.
