Newspaper Deliveryman Found Missing Woman

Vernon Haynes found the woman in a state of medical distress.

A Torrington woman is safe after a newspaper deliveryman found her in medical distress on Wednesday and brought her to the hospital.

Patricia Aversa had been missing for five days when Vernon Haynes found her around 2 p.m. on June 29 while he was on his normal route, delivering papers for the Waterbury Republican American.

Aversa was unconscious and Haynes brought her to Waterbury Hospital, where she was treated and released, Torrington police said.

Torrington police said substance abuse issues were involved while Aversa was missing.

Police went to St. Mary’s Hospital after learning that Aversa was located and at the hospital and brought her to Torrington Police, where she was later placed into protective custody.

Aversa was charged with violation of probation under Paperless Re-Arrest Warrant Network.

Torrington police have publicly thanked Haynes and said he and others help police and communities on a daily bases with their everyday conscientious actions.
