Newtown Superintendent Taking Position in Stratford

The appointment will be made offical on Feb. 27.

Dr. Janet Robinson, the current Superintendent of Newtown Schools, will leave her position in July and become the new Superintendent of Schools in Stratford, effective July 1.

Robinson will officially be appointed the job at a special Stratford Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 27. She was selected out of a pool of 20 candidates and after four rounds of interviews and an extensive background check.

As a final step in the selection process, members of the Stratford Board of Education visited Newtown and met with students, staff, parents and community leaders who know Robinson well.

The Stratford Board of Education cited Robinson’s “Students First” mantra, her grace under pressure and her high professionalism as top reasons for her hiring.

Recently, Robinson won praise for her leadership of the school district following the Dec. 14th shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary school.

Robinson was awarded the Peace Islands Educator of the Year award and will be honored by the University of Connecticut as Superintendent of the Year in March.
