No More Porn in Prisons, as of Next Year

Inmates have a year to let subscriptions run out.

Inmates who receive pornography in prison will no longer be able to receive it once their current subscriptions run out.

Department of Correction Commissioner Leo Arnone informed inmates on Monday that possession of sexually explicit material will be banned in the state's prisons as of June 30, 2012.

Current rules allow inmates can have sexually explicit material as long as it does not depict children, bestiality, sado-masochism or the use of force.

Arnone said his agency has reviewed how other states handle porn inside their prisons and said an overall ban is the most appropriate approach.

Prisoners have just about a year to let their current subscriptions expire and to dispose of any material they currently possess.
