North Stonington Schools Seek Audit Over Funds

Fiscal discrepancies were found during a recent annual audit of the district's budget.

North Stonington's Board of Education is looking into the district’s finances.

An audit is underway following concerns about possible misuse of credit cards, grant money, reimbursements and professional development money, the Day of New London reported.

While it is unclear who might have misused public money, Board member Robert Testa said discrepancies surfaced during a recent annual audit of the district’s budget.

Testa told the paper said that if officials determine that reimbursements were not legitimate, he wants to look for other irregularities.

For example, he said that inadvertently using a credit card authorized only for work instead of a personal credit card is a mistake once, but not if it's done several times.
