Northeast Utilities Announces New Name

Northeast Utilities has adopted a new name as part of a rebranding effort.

The utility, based in Hartford and Boston, changed its name to Eversource on Monday, Feb. 2.

“We’re proud of our history and our future as New England's energy provider,” Tom May, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Eversource Energy, said. “Our new brand represents the commitment of these six historic institutions, and our more than 8,000 employees, who make sure the energy that powers our corner of the world is always there. We are a single, united company with the mission of delivering reliable energy and superior customer service.”

The company said it launched an internal initiative in 2013 focusing on integrating its electric and gas companies and improving customer service. It included options for the utility's brand as it worked to integrate the company in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

The new name is meant to signify the company's "resolute commitment to always work to improve and to always make the right energy investments and innovations for customers."

“Energy is what brings us all together and as Eversource, we will proudly continue to meet our promises to our customers,” May said. “Whether it’s heading out in the storm while others head home, or taking care of problems before they arise, with a new name our focus remains the same - powering our region’s homes, businesses, offices, families, neighbors and friends.”

Northeast Utilities closed its $5 billion purchase of NStar in April 2012, creating one of the biggest utilities in the United States. Subsidiaries include Connecticut Light and Power, NU Transmission, Western Massachusetts Electric Co., Public Service of New Hampshire, NSTAR Electric and Gas and Yankee Gas Services Co. and all will adopt the new Eversource Energy branding.

The phone number and web log-ins will remain the same for the company and anyone using the former websites will be redirected to the new website, Eversource.com. You can also get more information on the company on Twitter (@EversourceCorp or EversourceCT) and Facebook.

Eversource will also appear on the New York Stock Exchange "under the ticker symbol ES" effective Thursday, Feb. 19.
