Norwalk Man Faces DWI Charge In Fatal N.Y. Crash

A Norwalk, Conn. man is facing a DWI charge in connection with a fatal crash last week in New York that tied up the New England Thruway for hours.

The Westchester County district attorney's office said on Monday that the investigation continues in the case involving Jose J. Ramirez, of Norwalk,.

His attorney did not immediately return a call from the Associated Press for comment.

New York state police said the crash killed his front-seat passenger, Kelman Villa Santos of Norwalk. A backseat passenger was hospitalized with internal injuries.

The wreck occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Friday in Rye near the entrance ramp from Interstate 287 to northbound Interstate 95. The ensuing traffic jam continued into the morning rush-hour.

Police said the northbound car rear-ended a Thruway pickup truck that was parked on the shoulder. The truck rolled and the car hit a concrete barrier.

The truck driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
