Nurse's Aide Used Sick Client's Home for Drug Deliveries: Cops

A nurse’s aide was arrested in Fairfield after having marijuana shipped to the Fairfield home of an unsuspecting elderly person receiving hospice care, according to police.

Police arrested Joan M. Mitchell, 45, of the Bronx New York, after FedEx employees called authorities about a suspicious package at their Norwalk facility during the early morning hours of November 19.

Fairfield Police said one package addressed to the home on Main Street in Southport contained about 14 pounds of marijuana and the other held about 10 pounds of marijuana.

The elderly resident of the home is in hospice care and had no knowledge of the drugs being shipped to the house, according to police.

Mitchell had been the resident’s live-in nurses’ aide for about two years and had been receiving packages at the home for months, according to police.

Other employees also worked at the home, but Mitchell was the only one who would inspect the packages delivered and she was spotted removing the marijuana deliveries from the porch and bringing them inside, police said.

Mitchell was charged with possession with intent to sell over 1 kilo of marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana within 1,500 feet of a school..

She was released after posting a $10,000 bond and is due in court in Bridgeport on Dec. 1.
