Cop, Off-Duty Detective and Driver Detain Suspect

Police said the man was fighting with two officers, so a resident came into help.

Trumbull police and an off-duty Meriden detective arrested a 51-year-old Stratford man suspected of domestic abuse on Tuesday.

A woman called 911 at 11:43 a.m. on Tuesday and said her children’s father, Michael Elliot, had shoved her to the ground and threatened to kill her, then ran from the home.

Police said they tried to stop Elliott on Daniels Farm Road near Park Street, but Elliott charged at the officer and punched him in the face.

An off-duty Meriden detective saw the attack, got out of his car and went to help the Trumbull officer, police said, but Elliott continued to fight.

Then, a driver came up and stopped his car behind Elliott so the officers could pin him against the car. The driver also helped police restrain Elliott, police said.

By the time police took Elliott into custody, one officer received a facial injury and the other a finger injury. Elliott was not injured.

Elliott is a convicted felon with prior domestic violence convictions, police said.

He was charged with interfering and resisting arrest, three counts of assault on a police officer, breach of peace and disorderly conduct. During the arrest, a pistol magazine fell from Elliott's coat pocket and police said they found a 25-caliber handgun at Elliott’s house. He was also charged with criminal possession of a firearm, assault and threatening.

He was also charged in connection with a domestic incident involving the same victim in December 2011 and charged with risk of injury to a minor, assault and breach of peace. Police said Elliott was accused of punching the victim in the face on Dec. 23 while driving on Hawley Lane in Trumbull and injuring her lip.

Elliott ran from the vehicle and was not located until this new incident.

Elliott was held on a total of $95,000 bond and was arraigned in Bridgeport on Jan. 25.
