Ex-Finance Director Off The Hook, Sort Of

North Haven’s former finance director has been granted accelerated rehabilitation for his role for a scandal that rocked North Haven town hall has been.

A Meriden judge granted Vincent Palmeri Jr. the special form of probation on Monday. One condition is that Palmeri answer investigators' questions as they continue to probe the scandal that toppled the Republican administration two years ago.

Palmeri was arrested in April 2007 on charges related to the alleged illegal activity of Joseph and Patricia Ierardi, the married couple who served as the town's former director and assistant director of community services and recreation.

Palmeri was charged with hindering prosecution, tampering with evidence and conspiracy to tamper with evidence in connection with allegedly keeping a rescinded bogus travel voucher of Joseph Ierardi's from investigators with the Public Integrity Bureau of the Chief State's Attorney's Office.

As reported by The New Haven Register:

Palmeri later found a voucher as investigators were in his office and gave it to them. Then, in October 2007, the state charged Palmeri with three counts of stealing a firearm and three counts of second-degree larceny for allegedly using town money to buy two Baer Tactical .45-caliber semiautomatic pistols with Colt frames.

On April 4, 2007, the Ierardis were charged with larceny and tampering with a witness. They are scheduled for a pretrial proceeding in Superior Court in Meriden Thursday.

As part of his probation, Palmeri must complete 25 hours of community service and cannot unlawfully possess a firearm.
