Officers Suffer Minor Injuries During Training

Police said a gun went off accidentally at the training facility in New Haven.

Two police officers had to be treated for minor injuries after a gun went off at the training academy and two officers were struck by fragments.

The training officer accidentally fired a 40-caliber gun into a concrete wall in the main classroom at the academy on Sherman Parkway in New Haven on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Fragments struck one officer in the arm and the other in the forehead, police said.

The officers were taken to an outpatient facility and treated. The chief of police responded and stayed with the officers.

Police said they will be fine.

The academy staff and the internal affairs division will investigate, following protocol.
