Officials: New Haven at “Normal Level” of Overdose Calls Over Weekend

After declaring a public health emergency because of an excessively high level of drug overdoses Thursday night, officials in New Haven say the city is back to a normal level of overdose response calls.

Asst. Fire Chief Matt Marcarelli says the city saw three to four overdoses a day over the weekend, which is a "normal level" for the city. This is significantly down from the peak Thursday, when emergency crews responded to more than 20 overdoses in under 24 hours.

Officials continue to monitor the situation and an update is expected sometime Monday.
