One Dead, Another Injured in New Year's Day Shooting

A 32-year-old man was killed and a 19-year-old man was injured during a New Year's Day shooting at a Fitch Street bar in New Haven.

Police responded to Soco's Bar at 50 Fitch Street just before 12:00 a.m. where two men were discovered lying in the parking lot, suffering from gunshot wounds.

One of the victims, who police identified as John Brown, had been shot once in the head. Brown was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:18 a.m. in front of his immediate family members, said police.

The second victim, Nathaniel Wadley, was shot once in the back. Wadley was transported to St. Raphael's Hospital, said police. He is listed in critical condition, according to a city spokesperson.

The case remains under investigation.
