Local and state police are investigating after a man was found dead inside 24 Golden Court in Naugatuck on Sunday and his wife was unresponsive.

A friend of the couple called police after not hearing from them in a week, police said. Officers arrived and tried several times to reach the couple, but there was no answer.

The found Krzysztof Wojcik, 58, dead in a bedroom, and his wife Danuta Wojcik, 61 was unconscious and suffering from unknown injuries. She was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital.

The couple immigrated from Poland and had no family in the area, police said..

A spokesperson for the Naugatuck fire department said they were called to check the home for carbon monoxide levels, however they found no dangerous CO levels present.

Police were called to that address a few times in the past year and a half, officials said. In 2010, an ambulance was called for unspecified reasons. Another incident was for a 911 hang up.

Earlier this year, an ambulance was called to the home because one of the residents had general weakness.
