Shirt Man for One Very Special Ship

Connecticut business will sell promotional material for ship made from World Trade Center metal

A Watertown Company has been given quite an honor. Gary DeCavage, a retired marine, runs his own printing and graphic design business and his company has been selected to sell promotional items for the soon-to-be commissioned USS New York LPD 21.

What makes the ship so special, is what it's made from. The USS New York's bow contains 7.5 tons of steel salvaged from the World Trade Center. It is the first and only ship in the naval fleet to contain the hallowed materials.

The USS New York is a 684-foot San-Antonio-class LPD (Landing Platform Dock).  Its primary mission will be to transport Marines in and out of combat operations, and to provide a platform for close air support during military action, the Waterbury Republican-American reported.

DeCavage will print everything from T-shirts to hats with the USS New York's logo. Part of the proceeds will go toward a fund to aid the ship's sailors and their families.

The boat is scheduled to be commissioned on Sept 11, 2009.
