A part-time Stamford public schools employee has been has been placed on leave amid a police investigation.
Jose Amor was hired in 2012 as a part-time tutor providing classroom coverage for teachers on an as-needed basis and supporting students during in-school suspensions at Westhill High School, according to a statement from the school department.
It’s not clear what Amor is being investigated for.
“Each and every employee of the Stamford Public Schools (SPS) is considered to be a public trust employee—no exceptions. First, I would like to acknowledge the members of the Westhill High School community who take their role as public trust employees seriously. However, I am appalled at the allegations and charges against Jose Amor, who was a part-time SPS employee. If the allegations against him are true and his actions inhibited the police from effectively doing their job to keep our city safe, he has violated that trust. The job of a coach is more than just developing athletic skills and confidence, but also about building character” a statement from Stamford Schools says.
“Mr. Amor has been placed on unpaid administrative leave effective immediately. Mr. Amor was hired in 2012 as a part-time tutor providing classroom coverage for teachers on an as-needed basis and supporting students during in-school suspensions at Westhill High School. He is not a full-time SPS employee and does not work for the school district during the summer. Mr. Amor also served as an assistant boys’ basketball coach from 2012 through 2016. He recently resigned from that position.
“The district will cooperate fully with the police investigation of this matter. I am proposing that the district undertake an administrative investigation into the actions of Mr. Amor. I am also proposing that the district conduct an administrative review of the actions of other members of the WHS athletic program staff and their involvement in this matter,” the statement goes on to say.
