Only one lane of Route 85 in Waterford is getting by just past the Speedbowl after a delivery truck struck a telephone pole earlier, bringing down live wires.
Expect heavy delays in the area, according to the Waterford Police Department’s Facebook page.
The delivery truck was heading south on Route 85 on its way to make a delivery at Crystal Mall when it drifted off the road and hit a phone pole. Police said they believe the driver fell asleep.
Wires are hanging about 5 feet above the road and Connecticut Light and Power is at the scene, working on the pole.
During the closure, traffic was diverted from Wayhill Road to Butlertown Road to Lakes Pond Road, and back onto Route 85 when going north, and in reverse for southbound traffic, police said.
