Police ID Victim of Drive-By Shooting in Preston

Police have identified the victim of a drive-by shooting in Preston on Saturday.

Robert Thompson, 35, of Preston was the passenger in a car when someone opened fire on it around 1:30 a.m. near Route 2A and Route 12, according to state police.

State police responded to the scene, but learned that Ledyard police were already escorting the vehicle with Thompson to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London.

Thompson was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The other vehicle involved left the scene, but detectives have since developed a person of interest in the shooting, according to state police.
