A passenger was killed and a driver was hurt in an Enfield crash.

A 21-year-old Vernon woman was killed when a car she was riding in struck a utility pole in Enfield early Monday morning.

Jenna Taylor, 21, of Vernon, and William Mccauley, 21 , of Somers, were in the vehicle when the crash happened around 4:30 a.m. on Broad Brook Road, Route 191, at Charnley Road, police said.

Police previously said the car was traveling at high speeds, hit a guardrail, struck a light pole, rolled several times and came to a stop against a shed.

Taylor was pronounced dead at Hartford Hospital. Mccauley, the male driver, was also injured, taken to an area hospital and is being treated, police said. Lifestar medical helicopter was called but could not fly because of weather conditions.

Route 191 is closed and is expected to remain so for hours.

Police are investigating what caused the crash.
