    A 57-year-old man was struck by a car and killed late Thursday night in Derby, according to police, and they are trying to reach his family. 

    Police identified the man as Alfredo Simoes. They believe he was homeless, with last known addresses in New Haven. 

    He was struck by a vehicle on Route 34 Eastbound near Chapel Street and died en-route to Yale-New Haven Hospital, police said. 

    Witnesses said Simoes was walking in the middle of the street just before the time he was struck. police said, and authorities do not believe the driver was at fault.
