Woman in Critical Condition After Crash

A New Jersey woman is in critical condition after being struck by a car Route 63 in Naugatuck on Thursday morning.

Sarifa Sara-Sanchez, 30, of Bloomfield, New Jersey, was operating a car carrier and was closing up the truck when she was struck by a 2002 Subaru Forrester and pinned between the carrier and the guardrail, officials said. She was delivering the cars to J&M Automotive when she was struck, officials said.

The woman was taken to St. Mary's Hospital.

The driver of the car that struck the woman is a 16-year-old Prospect boy, police said. Sun glare might have been a factor and police are looking into whether speed was another factor .

The crash happened near the Peter Paul candy company, located at 889 New Haven Road, which is also Route 63. The road re-opened just after 1:30 p.m.

The Hershey Co. closed the plant in 2007 and plans to begin demolishing it in January, the Naugatuck Patch reports.
