Glastonbury Police ID Pedestrian Killed in Crash

Glastonbury police have identified the woman hit and killed by a vehicle on Tuesday night as 51-year-old Karen McCarthy, of South Glastonbury.

Officers responded to Main Street near Water Street around 6:15 p.m. after getting a report of a woman who had been hit by a vehicle. The woman was transported to the hospital, where she later died.

Police said the driver of the vehicle stopped and was cooperative with investigators. No charges have been filed.

Police did not initially know who the woman was and put out a description, saying she was 40 to 60 years old with reddish gray hair and wearing glasses with purple frames, a green Cabela's raincoat and rain pants, black winter-style hiking boots and socks with pumpkins on them. She was also carrying a small red bag and a New York Yankees drink tumbler.

Police released McCarthy's name Thursday.
