A man was struck and killed by a vehicle on Wethersfield Avenue in Hartford Wednesday.

Police said it happened in the area of 521 Wethersfield Ave. The victim, identified as 80-year-old Stanislow Gnatek, was rushed to Hartford Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver did remain at the scene and is cooperating with police. He was also taken to the hospital, police said.

Wethersfield Avenue was closed for hours between Meadow Street and Preston Street but has since reopened.

"We’re going to conduct a full investigation, talk to pedestrians and witnesses in the area. There are a lot of businesses out here so we will check for any kind of surveillance video they may have, speak to the individual that was driving the vehicle," said Hartford Police Lt. Paul Cicero.
