A new phone scam has been traced back to a number in New Canaan, Connecticut.
The Connecticut Better Business Bureau issued the warning Thursday. In the scam, a caller identifies herself as "Betty." She offers to "drastically reduce mortgage rates" or cut credit card debt by at least 50 percent.
Caller ID boxes identify the telephone number as Debt Free calling from the number (203) 652-4022.
The Better Business Bureau said Debt Free is not connected to businesses with the same name found across the country.
Anyone who receives a call from Debt Free is advised not to share any personal information with the caller.
