Photos of Somers Students Portraying Blackface Circulating Social Media

Somers school officials are investigating after pictures that appear to show students wearing blackface popped up on social media.

The photos also included a racial slur. They have been shared multiple times on social media platforms.

A letter from the superintendent informed parents that the incident happened over the weekend and involved high school students.

Superintendent Brian Czapla released the following statement:

“"This unacceptable incident does not reflect the culture of our Somers Public Schools community. Upon being made aware of the inexcusable social media posts, immediate action was taken. As our investigation proceeds, appropriate measures will continue to be taken as this type of behavior will not be tolerated in our school system."

No other details were immediately available.
