Pizza Restaurant Employee Stabbed While Rushing to Aid of Neighboring Business Being Robbed

A store clerk was stabbed after rushing to the aid of a worker at a neighboring business during a robbery in New Haven.

New Haven police said when the Deli Haven market was robbed Saturday night, a store clerk from the New Haven Pizza restaurant next door rushed in to help, only to be attacked by one of the robbers.

This all happened at 9:50 p.m. Saturday night at 796 George Street in New Haven.

Police said one of the robbers had a knife and demanded that the deli’s clerk open the cash register. Then the robber bum-rushed him, grabbing an undisclosed amount of cash.

The clerk pushed him to the ground.

After hearing the commotion, the clerk from the pizza parlor next door confronted the men as they tried to flee and was stabbed in the arm. His injuries were non-life-threatening.

When police arrived, they saw one of the suspects counting cash. The suspect saw police and took off. After a chase down several blocks, during which the suspect threw the cash in the air, the officer was able to take the man into custody. They said he’s a 17-year-old man.

The other robber is still at large. He's described as a man in his 30s wearing a red shirt and black jeans.
