Suspect Surrenders After Shooting on Alden Avenue in Enfield

A suspect surrendered to police after one person was shot on Alden Avenue in Enfield on Friday.

Officers received 911 calls reporting shots fired around 10:25 a.m.

When police arrived, they said they found a man in the St. Adalbert's parking lot with an apparent gun shot wound to his leg.

He was transported to Hartford Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries and was released.

Police said witnesses told them that the suspect was last seen entering the home at 56 Alden Avenue. Officers took positions of cover and surrounded the home. Capitol Region Emergency Services Team was also notified and responded.

According to officers, the suspect, later identified as 22-year-old Nathaniel Rodriquez, of Enfield, called the police and wanted to surrender from the home. Rodriquez exited the home and was taken into custody without further incident.

Police recovered a gun from the scene of the shooting and later obtained a search and seizure warrant for the home, officers said.

Rodriquez is facing charges including criminal attempt to commit robbery, assault with a firearm, altering ID marking on a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, unlawful discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm without a permit and illegal possession of narcotics. His bond is set at $750,000.

School officials said Enfield High School, Enfield Head Start and the Enfield Central Office/Acorn School were put in “secure the building mode,” which meant that students, faculty and staff members could move about inside the building, but nobody could go in or out. Police gave schools the "all clear signal" the schools followed the regular dismissal schedule.
