Police Arrest Man, Woman Accused of Breaking Into Occupied Coventry Home

Police have arrested a man and a woman who are accused of breaking into an occupied home in Coventry on Friday afternoon.

Officers were called to home on South Street around 12:30 p.m. after getting a report of a burglary in progress at an occupied home. Police said the elderly homeowner had barricaded herself in a bedroom and called 911.

When crews arrived, police said they found a woman sitting in a vehicle parked in the driveway. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Farmington, authorities added. She was taken into custody without incident.

Police said they then found a man exiting the back door of the home and he was taken into custody without incident.

Officers said the man had cash and miscellaneous items stolen from the home in his possession. He was also found with a folding knife and burglary tools.

The homeowner was found safely barricaded in the bedroom, police added.

According to police, Kyle Youmans, of Hartford, and Cory Burtchell, of Bristol, are both facing charges including home invasion, burglary and larceny by possession. They were each held on $250,000 bond and are scheduled to be in court on Monday.
