Police Arrest Plumber

Waterbury Schools Foreman Charged with Forgery

Police in Waterbury say the plumbing foreman for the public schools, Ralph Perillo, has admitted falsifying inspection reports for fire safety sprinkler systems in the schools.

They charged Perillo with second-degree forgery, a felony.  Officials had noticed marks on reports Perillo signed for this year made them identical to last year's reports.  Only the year had been changed.

Perillo is due in court Sept. 7, free til then on $50,000 bail.

Many of the schools in Waterbury are too old for sprinklers. But some have them, including Gilmartin School, a showpiece set to open Monday, the first day of school in Waterbury.
