Boyfriend Suspected in Fatal Stabbing of Woman in Waterbury

Waterbury police are investigating the fatal stabbing of a 44-year-old woman on Saturday and said they have a warrant charging her boyfriend with murder.

Police responded to Matson Court in Waterbury around 3:15 p.m. because a woman had been stabbed several times and was not responding, according to police.

Officers found the victim, Tahnsia Watts, on her bed and said she’d been stabbed several times in the neck.

Detectives immediately identified Watts’ boyfriend, 42-year-old Vernon Haynes, as a suspect and said he had fled to the Bronx in Watts’ 2000 Mitsubishi Galant, according to police.

Waterbury Police obtained a warrant charging Haynes with murder with a court-set $2 million bond.

Haynes was picked up in New York and will be extradited.

Police said he has a criminal history that includes a murder conviction in New York in 1998.
