The Danbury Police Department says one of their officers shot a man wielding two knives during what started as a reported assault Wednesday morning.
According to Danbury Police Chief Patrick Ridenhour, the incident began when officers were called around 8:45 p.m. for a reported assault at 38 Old Ridgebury Road, the MCAA drug and alcohol rehabilitation center.
Responding officers found a man with two large knives nearby at Old Ridgebury Road and Reserve Road. According to Ridenhour, the man refused police orders to drop the weapons and was shot by a Danbury police officer. The shooting occurred around 10:45 a.m.
The man, who police say is in his 30s, was treated on scene and taken to the hospital. His condition was not immediately clear, police said he was conscious and speaking when he was transported.
No police officer was injured, though the involved officer was taken to the hospital for evaluation. It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured at the treatment facility.
Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton said there is no danger to residents in the area.
Connecticut State Police have responded to assist and will be doing a follow-up investigation into the shooting, authorities said.

The state Department of Transportation has shut down the exit 2 ramp at Ridgebury Road, according to state police.
