Police Shoot Dog After Attack in Shelton

Police said the woman was bitten several times.

Shelton Police have shot and killed the pit bull they said attacked a woman on Tuesday night.

Police said a pit bull bit a woman several times around 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday at 1 Forest Parkway when the woman got out of work and was getting into her car.

Police and EMS responded and treated the woman at the scene and transported her to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Police tried to capture the dog when it came out of the woods, but it ran back into the woods.

On Wednesday, animal control officers and police resumed looking for the dog. Officers found it in the woods and it was aggressive, police said. The dog was shot and killed.

On Wednesday afternoon, police said the animal was likely someone's pet at one point. It was neutered and had a collar, but no tags.

The dog was brought to veterinarian who determined that the dog had a microchip.

Police did not immediately have information from the chip, but are following up to find the dog's owner.

Police said the animal was skinny and weighed about 40 pounds.
