East Hampton police are investigating a series of kayak thefts that occurred around Lake Pocotopaug over the past ten days.
Police say a total of seven kayaks have been reportedly stolen from the beachfront area of the Edgemere Condominiums since July 5th.
Police have recovered one kayak but the owner has not come forward to identify it.
East Hampton resident Victor Rodriguez said people are now taking more preventative measures by using locks and chains to secure their kayaks. In addition, bushes by the lake have even been cut down as a safety precaution, “We had a whole series of bushes here and I guess they cut em down for security matters,” stated Rodriguez.
East Hampton officials are also checking EBay and pawnshops for the stolen kayaks.
