A Torrington woman is in critical condition and police are investigating to determine whether her injuries are the result of an accident or a crime.
Police went Charlotte Hungerford Hospital at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday to investigate a report that a woman had fallen down a flight of stairs at her home in the 400 block of Litchfield Street in Torrington, police said.
The 45-year-old woman suffered severe head trauma and was transported to Hartford Hospital, where she is in critical condition in the intensive care unit, police said.
The victim’s boyfriend told police that he heard his girlfriend yell during the night, then heard a loud crash and found her unconscious at the bottom of the stairs, police said.
On Wednesday afternoon, the woman’s family members went to police to report that there might be a criminal nature to the case.
Detectives secured a search warrant at 9:20 p.m. and are investigating.
Police have not released names of anyone connected to the case.
