Police Investigating Armed Robbery at Yale

A man robbed two Yale University students at gunpoint at a residential college early Monday morning and university police are investigating and adding patrols, according to Yale University Police.

Chief Ronnell Higgins, the director of public safety and chief of police for Yale, issued a statement to the Yale community Monday morning that said two undergraduate students encountered a man in a room at Timothy Dwight College just after 1:30 a.m. Monday.

When confronted, the man showed a handgun, stole a computer and fled from the college, police said.

No one was injured during the robbery. Police are looking for the robber.

Yale student Malak Khan said he saw a post about the robbery on social media before he got the alert from police.

"We were obviously panicking because we had no idea what was going on," Khan said.

“It is kind of terrifying if someone can just waltz into your room with a gun and rob you," he added.

Senior Stella Shannon said she thought the university notified them promptly, but she was still concerned about safety.

“It shocked me that that was able to happen and I think it would be great if they could figure out more security procedures but you also don’t want to create like a walled-off campus," Shannon said.

Yale University police are investigating and have increased patrols in the area.
