Police Investigate Fatal Shooting of 19-Year-Old in New Britain

New Britain Police have identified the 19-year old man who was shot and killed on Roberts Street on Monday night and conrtinue to investigate his death.

Police have identified the victim as Cory Earl Washington, of 60 Roberts Street. in New Britain.

Police received several calls at 10:49 p.m. reporting possible gunshots in the area of 62 Roberts Street and found Washington lying in the street.

"I heard a big boom and I thought it was fireworks at first, and then I peeked out the window and I said, 'Ma, someone is laying outside," Eddie Carter, of New Britain, said.

Neighbors said they ran to the teen, who was not moving.

When police responded, they found Washington suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  

He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.   

Those who knew the teen are heartbroken.

"He wasn't bad. He was a good hard-working man. He's young and he's going to be missed," Raul Marrero, of New Britain, said.

Neighbors said the shooting was an unusual occurrence for the neighborhood.

"This never happened before on this block and it's a peaceful block, and now it's like, what's going to happen next?," Carter said.
