Missing Infant Found Safe, Dad Out on Bail

The father of a missing baby boy who was found safe has been arrested and is now free on bond.

Winchester police issued an Amber Alert after they say Darrin O'Brien Jr. was abducted by his father, Darrin O'Brien, 30,  on Sunday night.

Officers say the older O'Brien took the baby from his mother's home in Winsted just before 9 p.m. after saying, "If we're not going to be together, we're not going to have the baby."

O'Brien then grabbed the baby and fled on foot, police said.

Police contacted O'Brien at one point and he said he would return the baby, but did not, police said.

Police found them in Torrington early Monday morning and arrested O'Brien.

O'Brien was charged with risk of injury to a minor, interfering with police and breach of peace and was held on $25,000 bail and arraigned Monday at Bantam Superior Court.

He was free on bond on Monday.
