Police Make Arrests in Naugatuck Valley Drug Ring

Authorities conducted raids in at least five towns Friday.

Authorities from several agencies conducted raids in a multi-town drug investigation Friday morning.

Police and federal agents raided 11 homes in Ansonia, Derby, Hamden, Waterbury and Seymour. Police served several warrants, and arrested nine people wanted on drug charges. Many of those arrested are connected to violent crimes throughout the Naugatuck Valley, police said.

"They are not sticking to the borders of Ansonia, Derby and Seymour.  They're moving all over the place," said Ansonia Police Chief Kevin Hale.

One of the home's raided Friday is across the street from Ansonia Middle School on Howard Avenue.

"Are they going to worry about gunshots?  Are they going to worry about getting kidnapped?  Are they going to worry about someone trying to sell them drugs," said Chuck Albea, who has a grandson at the school.

According to police, the arrests on Friday will help keep cocaine off the streets and hopefully put a dent in violent crime in the area.

"We're just not going to tolerate this and we're going to do whatever it takes to put a stop to it," Hale said.

Police expect to make more arrests.
