Police Make Arrests in Norwich Mill Fire

Police have made three arrests in connection with a large mill fire in Norwich in April.

When fire broke out at the Capehart Mill just after 3 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27, crews from 18 departments responded.

It was at least the third fire in an abandoned building in Norwich in days and, for three days, crews fought to suppress the fire. By the time it was out, one firefighter sustained minor injuries.

Investigators determined that the fire had been set. On Tuesday, officials made three arrests.

Michael Baker, 23, of Taftville, was charged with first-degree arson, third-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief. Bond was set at $250,000.

Laura MacDonald, 43, of Norwich, was also charged with first-degree arson, third-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief. Bond was set at $500,000.

Victoria A Ercoli, 19, of Norwich, was charged with first-degree arson, third-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief and tampering with evidence. She is being held on $250,000 bond and will be arraigned in Norwich Superior Court GA 21 on Aug. 25.

Baker and MacDonald appeared in Norwich Superior Court GA 21 on Tuesday.
