Rescue Crews Recover Body From Middletown Reservoir

Rescuers have recovered the body of a 24-year-old man who jumped into the water of a Middletown reservoir Wednesday and never surfaced.

Middletown South Fire District Chief Robert Ross said first responders were called to Old Reservoir, an abandoned quarry area off Bow Lane, around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Police, firefighters, paramedics and Middlesex Hospital personnel flocked to the area, while a dive team and high-angle rescue team worked to find the missing man.

He was located a little over an hour later, in 30 feet of water. The man appears to have gone over a 30-foot ledge, according to Ross.

Authorities have not released any information on the man's condition, but NBC Connecticut crews at the scene said the body was covered with a sheet before being loaded into an ambulance.

Ross said the man was taken to Middlesex Hospital. The victim has not been publicly identified.

He called the rescue "extremely challenging" and warned that the area is unsafe.

Police continue to investigate.
