Police Nab Serial Shoplifter after Pursuit

Fairfield Police arrested a 42 year old woman after steeling several items from a Kohl's Department store then involving police on a chase on I 95.

Diana L. Eldridge of 106 Harborview Avenue, was observed by kohl's Department Store Loss Prevention after she would select multiple items from the men's wear section, taking them into the woman's fitting room then exiting the fitting room without any items visible.

Store employees then checked the fitting room and found the items were not there after Eldridge left.

Eldridge, according to a police report, then made efforts to leave the department store, passing several points for payment, finally exiting the store.

She was then approached and asked to return to the store and she was further informed that police were on scene at which time Eldridge turned and replied "I don't give a (expletive)" and jumped into a vehicle almost striking a police cruiser.

Fairfield Police then pursued Eldridge into Bridgeport and onto I 95 southbound to exit 22 where she was stopped and taken into custody on Kinnie Drive in Fairfield. 

Eldridge was also under investigation for possible thefts on July 29th from Marshalls Department store and on July 27th from kohl's.

Police say she has a history of fifty-four prior arrests.

Eldridge faces larceny, interfering with a police officer, reckless driving, operating a vehicle without a license, no insurance, engaging in a pursuit, theft of a plate.

Eldridge was released from custody at approximately 8:30pm on a $2,500 bond and has a court date of August fifth.
