Person Shot to Death, Left in Car: New Britain Police

Police have ruled a suspicious death on Yeaton Street in New Britain a homicide.

Jesus M. Silva, 24, of Meriden was shot to death before police found his body in a car, police said.

Police said they were dispatched to the area near the Farmington Avenue intersection at 7:48 p.m. on Tuesday after receiving reports of a suspicious car parked on the street.They discovered an unresponsive man in the car who was pronounced dead at the scene. Police originally deemed it suspicious and have since determined he died in a shooting and ruled it a homicide.

Witnesses said they heard gunshots in the area before police arrived. Authorities said there is no danger to the public.

The medical examiner responded to the scene, according to police.

State police and the New Britain state's attorney's office are assisting with the homicide investigation.

The intersection was closed for several hours.
