‘SHS' Threat Was Not Credible: Officials

Simsbury police said they were alerted about a vague social media threat that possibly related to Simsbury High School and school officials said police determined that the post was not credible.

Police learned around 7:30 a.m. about a social media threat after several students alerted the school resource officer and Simsbury High School Staff when they got to school about the threat, which was vague and not specific to Simsbury Schools.

A statement from the superintendent’s office says someone posted a message that a high school with the acronym “SHS” might be a target of violence and the school took precautionary measures since the threat was not directly associated with the any school, including Simsbury High School.

The school and police worked together and activated a “Lock Out” procedure at the high school.

Additional uniformed officers were present in the building and on the grounds during this time, police said.

“We had additional police presence on the site and secured all entrances to the school. Classes remained in session and our operations continued while police investigated the issue,” a statement from Supt. Matt Curtis said.

“By mid-morning the Simsbury Police Department determined that the social media thread that posted was not credible. Based on their recommendations we returned to normal operational procedures,” Curtis said in a statement.
