Police Search for Answers in Hartford Man's Death

Police said Dartanyon Blake, 39 of Hartford, might have been struck by a car.

On Feb. 15, Dartanyon Blake, 39 of Hartford, was found lying in Plainfield Street in Hartford, suffering from wounds he sustained in an assault.

The father of three was brought to St. Francis Hospital for treatment, but died on Feb. 27. The Hartford Police Department Crime Scene Division has been investigating, but what happened to Blake is a mystery and city officials hope that the public has answers and someone come forward with information.

“At this time, we do not know how Dartanyon was injured – but we know someone does,” Mayor Pedros Segarra said. “I am asking anyone with information to come forward and help us to ensure justice for this young man and to ease this family’s grief.”

Police said earlier in the month that Blake might have been struck by a car.

Blake’s family and friends told WNPR that he was the victim of a hit and run.

Segarra, Police Chief James Rovella and Blake’s family will be holding a news conference 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the City Hall Function Room, at 550 Main St. to ask for the public’s help.

“No piece of information is too small to an investigation,” Rovella said in a statement. “Information one may consider insignificant, investigators may find to be of enormous value and importance. I encourage anyone who may have seen or heard anything of the incident in the vicinity of Plainfield Street on February 15th, 2012 to contact us.”

Anyone who witnessed what happened to Blake or has information, no matter how slight, that could be of assistance in the investigation, is asked to call Crime Scene Division Det. Michael Chauvin at 860-757-4229.

Confidential, anonymous tips may be made both on-line and by phone at Hartford Crime Stoppers, 860-722-TIPS (8477).

Drake is survived by his parents, three children and two grandchildren, according to his obituary.
