Police Search for Waterbury Woman Missing Since Tuesday Night

A 26-year-old Waterbury woman has been reported missing. Police are looking for her and they are also trying to find her boyfriend. 

Janet Avalo-Alvarez is the co-owner of La Guakara Taina Bar, at ‪675 East Main St., and the last time friends and coworkers had contact with was around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday when she was working there, police said. 

Alvarez’s vehicle was left in the parking lot behind the La Guakara Tiana, police said, and they have not been able to reach her by cell phone or social media. 

She is around 5-feet-1 and weighs between 150 and 160 pounds. Police said she has no known known medical issues.

Officers from the patrol division started searching for the missing woman just after 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. 

Police said Waterbury Police Detectives are trying to locate/interview 32-year-old Alfredo Esmerli Peguero-Gomez, of Waterbury, about this investigation. Authorities have not named him as a suspect.

Pequero-Gomez and Avalo-Alvarez are in a dating relationship and live together, police said. He is also a co-owner/operator of the La Guakara Taina Bar. 

Police said they have executed search warrants at La Guakara Taina Bar in Waterbury, the Nissan Altima belonging to Avalo-Alvarez and the residence on Ayers Street in Waterbury that Peguero-Gomez and Avalo-Alvarez share.
