A round-up of news from the police desks in Connecticut, Sunday November 2.


Shelton

Two men were arrested Saturday after each of them allegedly hit Shelton police cruisers in separate incidents.  Juan Lugo, 28, was arrested after he hit a cruiser and fled from police during a traffic stop, according to Shelton police.  An officer was treated for injuries.  Lugo was charged with D-U-I and assault with a motor vehicle.

Several hours later, while an Accident Investigation Team was investigating the first accident, a vehicle alleged driven by John Merry,m 27, hit another police car.  The mishap sent another officer to the hospital, police said.

Merry was arrested on charges similar to Lugo's.


Waterbury


Police said Saturday that they do not expect criminal charges to be filed in the fatal school bus accident that happened on Friday.  Jonathan Gonzalez, 2, was struck and killed by a school bus in the Durham School Services parking lot.  The child's mother is a driver for the company.

Pamela Gonzalez, 37, is a driver for the bus company, police said.  She left her 5 children in a parked bus while she walked to her car Friday, according to police.  The 3-year-old boy apparently got off the bus and was standing in a nearby parking spot when he was hit by another bus.

"There doesn't appear to be any negligence," said police spokesman Christopher Corbett.


Westport


Five people were injured and taken to the hospital after a motor vehicle accident on I-95 southbound in Westport early Saturday afternoon. The Westport Fire Department responded to the accident scene on the Saugatuck River overpass.  The passengers were treated at Norwalk Hospital for neck, back and stomach pains, according the to Fire Department officials.  The car landed on the median, but a spokesman didn't have a cause of the accident.  


Bridgeport


Metro-North trains were reported running on schedule Sunday morning after service was shut down Saturday night due to a bomb threat.  Service at the Bridgeport station was suspended after police received a threat at the Water Street train station around 8:00 p.m., according to Bridgeport police.  The service was suspended for about 45 minutes in both directions between Stratford and Fairfield while officers searched the station.  Nothing was found and service resumed just before nine.
